EPA Updates Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data from Large Facilities. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released its second year of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data reported by large facilities. The Greenhouse Gas Reporting System requires facilities that emit 25,000 metric tons or more per year of GHGs are required to submit annual reports to the EPA. The total amount of emissions from 117 reporting facilities in New Jersey was 26,274,739 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) with 60% of that coming from power plants and another 22% coming from a combination of petroleum and natural gas systems and refineries. Nationwide, approximately 8,000 facilities across nine industry sectors reported 3.3 billion tons CO2e of direct emissions.
